Speeding up access to network shares

Problem:
There is a 30 second+ delay whenever I attempt to access a network share using the computer name (\\server1) at the Start--Run command or in Windows Explorer. It also occurs whenever I attempt to search for a computer on the network and access the share. How can I speed up accessing my network shares?

Versions:
Windows 2000

Solution:

Microsoft has identified this as a glitch in Windows 2000. Whenever a network share is accessed, Windows 2000 searches the remote computer for scheduled tasks, which takes up to 30 seconds and is completely unnecessary.

Download this program and run it to apply the fix. This program automatically deletes a registry entry that causes Windows to access the remote computer's scheduled tasks.
